Her freckles popped with joy as she worshipped the wine colored flesh with her tongue laughing as she separated the stone from her teeth with pianist’s fingers tossing it out the car window yelling “grow strong” as it flew to its new home along highway 104 “grow strong” I whisper tucking her love worn elephant alone between her soft blue sheets. God how is a week so long? No phone, no letters the trees so thick buried in their blankets of mist even our telepathy might static black and white test screen as my soul travels west back to the potholes dirty wet leaves the smell of death and renewal rewinding me pretending I would be ok praying she will connect with herself, reach for the peaks and that I won't suffocate on second thoughts and catastrophizing or choke on the pits I find in the fruits of her dreams
