Another Day

Triggered both by seeing an ICE raid and the Mayhem prompt for day 6. As it turns out it will likely also get included in “Climate Change…”

The day broke as usual
with musical reminders
softly removing blankets
from my body and 
pillows from my brain

Coffee, rich and dark
I wish it were a man
kissing my throat 
warming my center

Car chirps 
blue jays reply 
traffic jams

Sun disappears
in a cloudless sky
red raindrops 
staining summer snow
a distant wail
stammering in the breeze

Cardinals 
flapping only one wing
turning in circles 
like music box dancers
running out of battery
spirits can't tell the truth 

Owls asking why why why
humans heltering
humans skeltering
wailing so loud
even the trees cower
from their leaves

red raindrops
stain summer snow
sky cries bloody murder
crows come for dinner
scrumptious carcass 
of the land that sold its soul

My heart broke as usual
with musical reminders
harshly moving dreams  
from my country and 
decency from strength 

Coffee, weak and strained
like frightened men 
strangling my throat 
icing my core
